She has been really weird about eating ever since dx, she hates the WD and the DCO, she would barely touch the soft food version. It took me a month to get her eating every 12 hours, I made a home made diet of Turkey, broccoli , rice, I mixed this with Orijen and she did good for a couple of months, eating every 12 hours, but we still saw high readings everyday, I increased her insulin to 15 units and she came down too low. Keep in mind I am only learning as I go, she never went into shock, but it was close.
She has been plagued with UTI's becasue of the high BG's, so she has been on antibiotics forever. Please keep in mind that I have taken her to 4 different Vets, I have spent over 5k and she is no better, they just don't seem to be able to really help her, she has been tested for everything, she has had an ultra sound, all normal. I think I am doing everything right, at least I hope so. Taking her to the Vet when her BG is high seems to be a waste of money, $600 and they do nothing I can not do on my own.
About a month ago she became quite picky about her food, she runs away from everything I put in front of her, the rice turkey mix she wont even touch, I have tried over 25 different kinds of food, it's hit or miss. I have tried expensive kinds, cheap kinds, Alpo, Beneful, Kibbles and Bit's, Avo Derm, Nutro, Praire, Evo. Lets just say my house looks like a pet store. The Vet put her on Cipro, a antibiotic for the UTI and it got worse. Her feedings are now just when ever she will eat and her insulin is after she eats if she even does. Sometimes she will only get it once per day as she will not eat in the morning. I have tried egg, cottage cheese, lunch meat, everything. She will eat steak but doesn't really like hamburger, if I feed her a rotiserri chicken, she will eat that, but she wont eat boiled chicken, she wont eat Pumpkin. I'm dying here.
I took her off the Cipro 2 days ago, and while writing this she came down and ate 2 cups of Orijen mixed with a little cottage cheese and Karo, her bg was at 80, this is very abnormal for her to eat like this, please pray it last's. I am going to try keeping her cleaner by using those tucks medicated pads in her vagina area until we get her really eating good, I think the antibiotic was upsetting her tummy, she always wants to eat grass. I am a very happy mommy this morning, much more so than when I began to write this, I figured she wouldn't eat anything and I would have to force her to eat.
Has anyone else ever had this happen? Thanks for listening, I am always open to new advice, anything to save my Mandy, I will do anything.
