05/26/09	Hi everyone! I thought I'd get this forum started off by a survey about what everyone is feeding their dogs currently. You can try to fill out these options, but feel free to add in whatever else you think is relevant! What type of dog food do you feed (if it's homecooked, feel free to add a recipe!)? How much and how often? How old is your dog? How much does s/he weight? Any medical conditions? Any medications? What treats do you feed? Rolo: 12 year old Corgi-Jack Russel mix. 24lbs. Diagnosed August 24th, 2008. Cute as a button. Food: Welless Core Reduced Fat (40g each meal), Orijen Sr (19g each meal) and Merrick canned Grammy's Pot Pie (50g each meal). Insulin: Humulin N (NPH), 5.25U @ 0730 and 1930. Supplements: 1/2tsp Sasha's Blend once daily, 500mg cranberry extract once daily, 1/4tsp Eagle Pack Holistic Solution (digestive enzymes & probiotics) with each meal. Treats: Dogswell Chicken Jerky, Wellness Pure Rewards post-insulin, and frozen green beans.

05/26/09	I will start off with Rolo. She is about 12-13 years old, and 24lbs. Right now she is eating a mix of Orijen Sr (55g each meal) and Merrick canned Grammy's Pot Pie (50g each meal). She gets two meals a day, one at 8am and one at 6pm (subjection to change). She is diabetic, so she gets her Lantus & NovoRapid at 8am, and just NovoRapid at 6pm (also subject to change)! For treats she eats 1/4pc chicken jerky and 2 frozen green beans at lunch (1pm), and frozen green beans before bed. Other supplements include 500mg cranberry extract 1x daily; 1/4tsp Holistic solution with meals (probiotics and enzymes); and 1/2tsp Sasha's Blend 1x daily for her arthritis. 05/26/09	Hi Grace.. Killian has been tough !!! He is diabetic ( for those of you who don't know him ).. For almost two years he was not regulated .. I tried every food from WD to Merrick !!! The Merrick ( can's) worked well but he still had high days.... what has worked now is this..... CRINGE !!!! One and a half cans of ID.. and half a can of Pedigree ( combo blue label) mixed in to it to get him to eat it !!!! I heat it in the micro for a second and he gobbles it up !!!! I don't know whats in this but for over six weeks now.. killian has stayed in the 100's This is truly remarkable to me. !!!! I know the pedigree is like McDonald's .... But this is working ... don't ask me why because I don't have a clue.... Before this it was slow cooked Chicken breast with one can of ID and some fresh veggies ground up into it.... I would say that feels like so much more of a healthy diet... But again his BG stayed in the high 200's and in the three e's/ I do not recommend my diet on Killian to any diabetic dog !! But Im desperate to keep his BG at a level to help preserve his quality of life at this point....

05/26/09	Brandy diabetic eats 1 cup of Californa Herring and Sweet potato topped with 1/4 cup of cooked ground turkey. 1 teaspoon of fiber. Twice a day. She weights 70 pounds. 06/08/09	Lucy (theGoose) will be 13 yrs old this month (6/26) and weighs 14 pounds (Yeah) She eats 1 chicken breast tender with 1 Tbsp.rinsed, soft cooked white Calrose rice, 2 Tbsp. of canned (recently switched to Nature's Variety but will be introducing canned W/D this week), and grated zuchini and or yellow squash with a generous amount of chicken broth. Lucy eats 3 times/day- 7:30 am, 12:30 pm, and 7:30 pm. She is on Milk Thistle for her high liver values (175mg/day divided into 3 doses with meals) and my Lucy, American Pugsley, age 12 -born 6/26/1996, DX. diabetic Nov. 07, blind 2/08, Weight 14 lbs., Novelin N 8U , Homecooked chicken/white rice/ broccoli with canned Pets Promise chicken and brown rice.

April (diabetic) was well regulated on Nature's Logic dry food mixed with boiled chicken breast and rice..

But now Kalvin and Katrina who are not diabetic currently eat Canidae (dry) chicken and rice, mixed with a little canned canidae or Evo venison (canned).

Just bought a food that my dogs love...Orijen tried a sample size and they love it along with Honest Kitchen..I swear they know its expensive and try to make me feel guilty for only supplementing with it all..I also just bought Weruva
kobe beef for them ..spoiled babies

they give me that adoring puppy dog look..how could I not? Meanwhile I will be happy to eat frozen popcorn chicken(I do heat it up) and string beans.. What a life..i wouldn't trade my spoiled puupies for a million dollars..they trust and rely on me. ;-) so kobe beef it is.

LOL..
Barbara there are nights I just don't want to cook a meal for the family !! So its Pizza or Chinese ..
But I still go into the kitchen and cook for the dogs..
I have a rice cooker so that helps make it easier...
But I still have to cook up the meat and some veggies...
Th just shakes his head and says I thought you didn't feel like cooking???
I didn't that why we ordered out !!!
Then he'll look at me cooking anyway, and I just say this was not a option !!

Fritz is not diabetic, but he does have a problem with tear stains. One of the most important things is to keep all added coloring out of their food. I spent an eternity in the pet store trying to find a kibble that doesn't have added colors. I finally found Wellness. He started out on the puppy food, and is now on the adult lamb variety. I want to keep him on just kibble - no canned. It is very strange - this food costs more than any food I bought for Sissy! Go figure. Some other things you can do for tear stains are: 1. use stainless steel bowls 2. give only bottled water or spring water 3. a spoonful of yogurt once a day. There is a great tear stain recipe that Johanna give me: equal parts of milk of magnesia, talcum powder and boric powder. Mix together and add a few drops of hydrogen peroxide 10%. Make a paste and apply to the tear stains with a toothbrush. Let dry and brush it off. There are also pads that you can get or a product called Angel Eyes that you add to the food.

Puma the 12 year chi eats Wellness Weight Management. The other large dogs( non diabetic) eat Taste of the Wild Salmon kibble. It is grain free as well. The large dogs are between 70-80 lbs. They eat 1/2 c in the morning as a snack and 2 c at evening feed. Puma has 1/4 c in the morning and 1/4 c in the evening.There treats in the morning are one Large MilkBone. Puma the chi gets a little milk bone.

Pugs eat 1/2 cup dry Pedigree with tablespoon of meat in the morning and late afternoon. Always a cookie when down for the night.

I do hate it when old firms decide to alter their product. Pedigree added a new formula and our pugs squirted for days. Now they accept it without problems.

Squirting pugs - now that is not a pretty picture!!!

Sissy, a 15 1/2 year old lhasa apso left for the Rainbow Bridge on February 28, 2009. She was diagnosed on September 21, 2007. You can run and your eyes are clear, my girl. On March 8, 2009, we adopted Fritz, a Bichon Frise puppy. He is a rescue dog with a beautiful spirit.

What type of dog food do you feed Pedigree weight management - canned (chicken and rice)
How much and how often? twice a day in the morning only the canned, and evening dry mixed in with canned
How old is your dog? How much does s/he weight? Prissy (cocker) is 8 years old, weighs about 25 lbs, has been maintaining her weight pretty good, Now CeeCee our standard sized Chihauhau is weight challenged - she's about 17 lbs
Any medical conditions? Any medications? Prissy just has a skin problem (overactive fat glands) weekly bathing, and the usual cocker ear problems, but only in the right ear. CeeCee has a tenancy to be hypoglycemic, floating knee caps, and the prolapsed throat thingy ROFL...but none of this stops her
What treats do you feed? iams weight management milk bones, the dried chicken strips and once a week denta bones and whatever they can convince Jim to give them
