All has been going so well. Eating better BS great. Gained some wt. Now he is pooping the bed every night????? It is not diarrhea and he is not sick. He
is just sleeping away with a little pile of formed stool beneath his backside. This has happened the last 4 or 5 nights. All I can figure is it is like an
old man...just not waking to poop? Jac someone said ask you as Abby did this???? He does not do this during day hours at all.

How long have you been feeding him hard food? One of the things that happens when a dog (or human) doesn't get enough to eat, the body begins to digest
muscle when there is no fat left. It may be that while he was starved, his sphyncter muscle was compromised and now the hard food is producing too much bulk
for the muscle to handle. I hope it is something simple and that it clears up soon.

hard food ever since I had him..from June. HE poops normal all day. I am wondering if something wrong with his muscle or is he just sleeping right through
it?????? Will just have to see waht happens.
I also kept him from Jan to april and he was on dry food mixed with canned.

Nash did this a couple times, maybe a year or so ago. It was while he was sleeping during the day while we were at work. It was exactly like you said,
well formed, etc. It wasn't a lot. But we assumed he had just slept so hard that he slept right thru it.
Cindy and Nash
Nash was born 9/2/1998, and is my sweet 1/2 breed Cocker Spaniel/English Springer Spaniel. He was dx'd with diabetes in November 2007 and is currently on 9 units of Novelin N twice a day. Nash went blind approximately 6 mnths after dx, has glaucoma and gets eye drops 5x day |

Yep, my Abbey has occasional night-time poops. It doesn't happen all the time and I still haven't figured out if it's a timing-thing or a
food-thing. It doesn't seem to matter what she eats or what time she eats.
Vet says it's probably due to fused vertabrae (sp?) at her lower back. Lots of nerve involvement plus her bowel is located right there, too. Vet says that area probably becomes numb during the night and she loses control. But not all the time - maybe once every two weeks now. Like Nick, the poops are hard. Do you know if there's anything wrong with Nick's lower back area?
Jac, Ella (golden retriever, not diabetic), Abbey (golden retriever/Irish setter, not diabetic) beautiful Angel Jenny (golden
retriever), and cats Mona and Ernie.
Jenny passed away February 15, 2008 at almost 14 years old. Weight: 65 pounds. Diabetes, myasthenia gravis, hypothyroid. Started on Caninsulin (Vetsulin) for 3 months then switched to NPH - 13 units twice daily. .

Hey Jac and Dee....Jac he does have most of his muscle missing but it is upper neck area from a dog attack in 2008. He almost died. I am sure there is nerve
damage but it is at a high level, near his neck about where his collar fits. I really think he is just not waking up and maybe then wakes up after a little
comes out????? Who knows but he is doing so good. I am afraid to brag, afraid I will jinx him. Cindy sounds like with Nash, just sleeps through it. Oh well. I
am being tested????? LOL. Dee, thanks for asking, he really is doing well right now. Eats like a piglet!!!!

I have a dog that used to poop in his sleep occasionally. After doing research on the matter, I discovered that it isn't that uncommon. Like Jacque
mentioned, it could be a spinal issue but more often than not, it's from gas. If Nick is eating like a pig, he could be gulping his food and swallowing a
lot of air. This definitely creates gas and like people, dogs pass gas in their sleep but thankfully, dogs are more likely than people to let a dingleberry or
two escape. I am sure that Nick was just as surprised as you were to find that he wasn't sleeping alone.

Johanna, I too got such a chuckle when I read that, so very true and what a sense of humor and so well put!!!!
I loved it!! I think we have another Jac on board!!!! Thanks cushmomz2, I think that is exactly what may have happened, no other explanation for this is there? Although, I have nerve damage(cervical cord) in my neck area also and if Nick`s damage was serve enough than I can see this happening when he is sleeping. No I don`t have this (yet) but I do know if I have to go I have to go Now!!!!! There is no such things as holding it anymore. Thought I should share my experience and I know Nick had severe damage to his upper neck in that dog attack. Just a thought!

I haven't heard the term dingleberry for so long. Like Johanna, I almost spilled my drink. My drink was wine not coffee - we are having terrible plumbing
problems at our house. But I digress. I hope that's all it is. There is a special bowl you can get that has a cone it it that makes them move their food
around to get it and they eat slower. You can also put a tennis ball in his bowl - he has to eat around it and will eat slower. Unless he just picks up the
ball in his mouth and tosses it across the room. Big sigh. Thanks for the good laugh.

I don't even know how to respond to this other than poop happens..April did it and kalvin does it once in awhile especially after his neck surgery it seems
he may relax a bit too much. sometimes he wakes before it happens and ends up dropping a little poop on his way out..Like I said it happened after his neck
surgery for the herniated disc.He doesn't gulp his food at all.
