He has smelly ears...what can I wipe them out with in the meantime?  I have heard about diluted vinegar, alcohol, or maybe peroxide.   I used to clean Taffy's with alcohol....she never had any ear issues, thank goodness!

I got the Zymox today!  Wow, that was super fast!  Now, to get it into his ear.  Dirk is not exactly user friendly when it comes to his ears.  He's had issues before you can tell.  There was a lump in his ear and I had the vet tech look at it.  Scar tissue from a previous hematoma.  This would be great if this product works for him.  Poor guy.

Today of course I gave him a bath and cleaned his ears with peroxide....so will start the Zymox tomorrow I guess.   It says not to use anything else in his ears while doing the treatment.   His bath was the best I could do.  Out on the deck with two buckets full of warm water.   Stood him on a towel and just poured the water over him, lathered him up...and then rinsed with the other bucket.   Dirk must weigh 80 lbs and I surely can't lift him.  So he smells better, had a good brushing and hopefully the family quits complaining about how he stinks! 

Ok...walk time!  Dirk needs to lose a few, and so do I!  =)

The ear did seem better after only three days of using it.   However, he had a seizure one day and I didn't know if it was connected to the ear or not, and because this is just a foster dog and not my own - I quit using it.   He's been getting some bloodwork done trying to figure out the cause of the seizures, so haven't heard anything as of yet.  He quit bothering his ears though...so no clue!

I am away for a week, so the dog is back at the Center.  Hopefully he is doing okay. 

I'm surprised that this is your first dog with ear issues!  Bully's have them floppy ears too!  I would wipe them out good Johanna...and if this continues, then perhaps a vet visit is in order.  He may have an ear infection and will need drugs. 

You might want to look into the zymox too.  You do look over their ears and clean them out every once in awhile?  I used to do that with Taffy, maybe once a month just to get the grime out...same as humans.

Sounds like an ear infection.   Taffy was always pretty good about letting me clean out her ears, but I started when she was a puppy because cockers are notorious for ear issues.  I've had a couple of foster dogs that HATED me messing with their ears.  That one bid dog Dirk - gosh he was horrible.  I use to trick him, and finally able to get a few drops in his ears.
