Thanks for posting this Dawn! I just saw it now... June was in the hospital for 5 days. She has been home for a week. She is on 2 different antibiotics that she gets 2x a day and is also on pepcid ac once a day. She also eats one can of prescription kidney food once a day. She is doing great... Her blood tests improved a lot from when she first got to the hospital to her last day there. She will need another test which will be more realistic since she will be off IVs. Then she will get another test once she is off antibiotics to make sure we fought off the infection. She will be on meds for another 5 weeks.

The vet does not think it is chronic kidney failure. Instead, he believes it is an infection. I just cant figure out from what... I am super OCD about my cats and dog. There is never anything laying around that could harm them... no live plants.. nothing! It could have been from bacteria and the infection spread to her kidneys... I will know more when we go in for further tests but from the looks of the last blood test and how quickly she recovered, it is just an infection (that we are treating).

I was very lucky that my vet knew what he was doing. I joined a support group (yahoo group) for cats with chronic kidney failure and found some VERY helpful people that helped me read through the blood tests and gave me TONS of knowledge on everything that I needed to know about June's health. They said the exact same things my vet said... A lot of vets tell you to put your pet down if they are in kidney failure.. or don't prescribe meds for more than 2 weeks... I am so thankful that he was so knowledgeable on kidney failure....and everything else, really. He was a referral from my vets office (my vet couldn't get me in till 4 and I needed to get to the vet asap) Now, I think he will be my primary vet. He is awesome.

Please continue to say prayers for my little June. I am praying that this is just an infection and not kidney disease. It really looks like it is just an infection.... says the vet and experts on the support group. She is the sweetest little thing.. never hisses or swats... seriously, she is an angel. She loves on Riley and my foster dogs. I have always said, "June is so different... she is just such a special cat." I was devastated when this happened. I could not eat or sleep.... I just read everything I could on the subject and visited her at the hospital to help assist feed when she didn't have an appetite. I love her so much and she is getting her meds seamlessly so this is completely fought off and does not return!!!!

As for her name, I got her in the month of June and I (sort of) named her after June Carter... I was just thinking of names and it just fit her. I call her June, Junie... and sometimes "bug" short for June Bug...

She had a culture and she will be getting another one... The only thing with cultures is, the infection doesn't always show up. It didn't show up in her culture but did show up in her blood work so we knew to treat it. She is doing really good though!!!!
