Alert to all pet owners! Rattlesnake season is just beginning and we, on the West Coast, are just now seeing the new crop of baby rattlesnakes emerge.
My friend next door, just ran into one in the neighborhood while out walking with her newly adopted rescue, Chase- a 11 mo. old Chi-Mix. Chase suddenly jumped about 2 ft. in the air and she saw the snake fall to the ground and slither away. It got him on the neck, just to the side of his throat. My son was driving by just after the bite and found her frantically trying to get the dog home and she jumped in the car and they went to the Emergency vet clinic.
Chase was given anti-venom and is in so much pain. They said he's the second one today to get bit, but Chase is very small and this was a baby rattler which is apparently more dangerous. If he makes it through the night, they give him a pretty good chance of recovery and have a second dose of antivenom ready in case he gets worse this evening.
