Posts: 10009 10/17/10 07:51 PM Administrator	Tags : None Okay, why isn't the media talking about this. Why have the prices gone up .25-30 cents a gallon in just a couple weeks again? So, you know that means will be paying higher prices for gas to heat our homes. Geez, I can't turn down my $any lower without having icicles!! What all are you paying for gas where you live. It's up t$2.89-2.98 per gallon here, up from $2.62-2.67 just a couple weeks ago. I'm scared to get my gas bill. Seriously, we've only flipped on the heat twice in the last couple weeks....I need to put this off as long as possible. ' What are you all doing to save on heating costs? It's too late for me to sign up for a budget plan with the local Gas company, I'd be paying a LOT each month as I needed to have this in place by the beginning of June............. Cindy and Nash Nash was born 9/2/1998, and is my sweet 1/2 breed Cocker Spaniel/English Springer Spaniel. He was dx'd with diabetes in November 2007 and is currently on 9 units of Novelin N twice a day. Nash went blind approximately 6 mnths after dx, has glaucoma and gets eye drops 5x day

Posts: 571 10/17/10 08:58 PM	Ours was $2.89 for regular last week, it's 2.74 now...We heat with fuel oil. Usually runs around 6 or 7 hundred for the winter.

Moderator Posts: 1494 10/18/10 12:42 PM	We are paying around $2.79 a gallon. It was up to $2.90, so it is an improvement. We heat with propane. I can't remember how much it is a gallon, but we prebought $1200.00 worth of it. We had a new furnace put in 5 years ago, so it is much more efficient than the old one. We also have a propane stove that we use to heat the family room. Than there is "Old Sparky." This is my pet name for the pellet stove that my husband had installed over my dead body 3 years ago! It is warm heat, but it is so much work. Cleaning out the ash pan, hauling in the 40 pound bags of pellets. etc. At my age, I don't want to work that hard. My husband is installing some new insulation under the family room floor. And there are the little electric heaters and the plastic over the windows and ........my husband is really into this stuff. I just want to turn my thermostat up or down and walk away. Sissy, a 15 1/2 year old lhasa apso left for the Rainbow Bridge on February 28, 2009. She was diagnosed on September 21, 2007. You can run and your eyes are clear, my girl. On March 8, 2009, we adopted Fritz, a Bichon Frise puppy. He is a rescue dog with a beautiful spirit.

Jerri, I know exactly how you feel, set it and forget it. lol...I know how your hubby feels too, keep out as much cold as you can. I've been working on doing just that for the past 10 years. I lived in Fla. for 10 years then came back to Ohio. I had forgotten just how cold feels..This house I live in was built in 1919 on about 1000 acres of woodland that needed to be cleared for farmland. At one time this house had 5 fireplaces. Then after the wood ran out they took out the fireplaces and installed an oil furnace. In 1982 they replaced it with a newer bigger one..That's the one that's here now. Installed 1982 normally they last between 20 and 25 years, so it's about time. I would like to just tear the house down and build a single story house. I hate steps, and stairs..And this house can never be insulated properly..When it was built they didn't care about insulation. This is my house, you can see how hard it would be to insulate it. I think I was painting the roof when I took these. (metal roof) lol

Our home is spread out also, it is a tri-level home, built in the early 70's, with an added on family room in the back. That room had no heat ducts installed until we moved in and froze the first winter! We then added a gas fireplace, best money we ever spent. Our heat and electric budget is $259.00 per month here in Michigan.

Moderator Posts: 3785 10/19/10 09:56 AM	Ed, nice pictures of your house, thanks. Here in Ontario Canada, the price of gasoline was $1.07 per liter last week, where I live. So..... 1 US gallon = approx. 4 liters..... so were are paying $4.28 per gallon!! Then we have to add our new wonderful (not) HST (harmonizing sales tax) of 13% - brings 1 gallon of gas up to $4.84!!!!! The Tax before was only 5% but then July 1`st the HST came into effect!!!! Posts: 975 10/19/10 11:19 AM	Carolyn...Laugh at myself in reading your post. On our ten year travels to see all the states, Canada and Mexico, it was Canada that had me confused. I never knew the cost of a gallon vs. liter and also never knew how far it was to the next town. Guess my education was limited to miles and gallons.

Can you believe that? I don't know what is going on. I would hate to pay Canada prices. What is a harmonizing tax? It sounds like some kind of effort for everyone to get along. It is on our hydro, heating and gasoline, telephone, things we cannot control and a must for everyone. It is applied to travel, restaurants, wine beer, cigarettes and clothing and just about everything you can think of! It is a killer!!!! Every job I ever had except truck driving I was working off the ground...I've been a telephone lineman, a tree trimmer, and a fire and burglar alarm installer, so I'm pretty used to high places..I even made a parachute jump one time. lol Thanks you all, glad you like my house. I'll post some pictures later in the photo room.

Moderator Posts: 3053 10/20/10 11:08 AM	I pay about 2.79 a gallon for gas here in NH, our grocery store, plus another (Shaws and Price Chopper) gives 5 cents off a gallon of gas for every $100.00 you spend, and we have a couple of gas stations that of course accept this. We heat with propane in the mobile home and during the winter we use a propane/kerosine mix. It runs about $800.00 a year to heat the place and cook (we use propane for the stove)

She is moving out of the city and with all the driving this month her gas bill for the car was $1400.00. Now I know why she is quitting and getting something closer to home. Dawn
