That is outrageous!  However, I read where some of the newer cancer treatments were costing upwards of $100,00.  And only extending the lifespan by 2 weeks.  Our medical system is seriously warped, but I'm afraid it is going to get worse, not better.  You saw how government handled the medicare prescription plan - wait until they get ahold of our health insurance.  OK - off my soapbox now.  Davis - I hope the new drug works wonders - at that price, you should expect it to!

Drugs can do amazing things.  However, when I go to the doctor, I can tell she doesn't feel good until she hands me a prescription for something.  Doctors have no time for patients and people believe drugs can fix whatever is wrong.  It is sad, but the insrance companies are partly to blame for these costs.  When you can get a drug that is $600 a month if you self pay and $60 with insurance, people really don't see the costs of the drugs.  And if these drugs are so expensive, how can the drug companies give them to people who have little or no money.  They can because insurance companies and people with money pay it on the front end.  I take several meds and so does my husband.  And they work great for the problems, but every drug has side effects that can make something else worse.  Here is another example - I take Celebrex for arthritis and it works great.  Most days, I only need one pill, but some days I hurt more so I can take another one.  The only way for me to get enough to be able to take 2 a day is to write the prescription for 2 every day.  I have to pay $100 for 3 months whether it is 90 pills or 180 pills.  And those little devils cost $3 a piece if you pay for them.  And I love this - my son takes Celebrex, too.  So I can give him almost half of my pills and he only needs to get his prescription filled once a year.
