Dr Lee,
Jasmine is my 12 year old diabetic Husky . I posted about her on the forum. A week before her teeth cleaning I noticed that she was not hungry as much It was a chore just to get her to eat. Took her to Dr BUrke She did not have a UTI ( her Bg's were a bit high) He put her on Tramadol and Rimadyl( only for 4days) Two days before the surgery she was put on Flagyl as an antibiotic. She did well and had 2 molars pulled( severely infected) and a bone graft was done on the one with the big hole. After the cleaning she was restarted on Rimadyl and Tramadol and needed to finish her flagyl( finished on 8/20). Her appetite was still bad. I had to resort to force feeding still.. On 8/23 we did an in house mini chem
Bun 21 N
Glu 193 H
ALKP 165 H
T protein 6.6. N
Creat 1.6 sl H
The vet put her on Pepsid 10 mg 1 1/2 tabs 2 x a day and CLindamycin 24 hours later Jasmine threw up water with bits of food and then 2 more times that night. She was taken off this drug immediately. Continued the pepcid. Her appetite still was horrible The vet checked her mouth numerous times The flap was healing well There was absolutely no signs of and thing swollen, any drainage,no fever, or soreness. We returned back to the vet yesterday and agreed that a Senior chem needs to be done, He injected Jasmine with a B12 shot as well. If the senior chem showed something abnormal then the next step would be an ultrasound.
So this was hard Was she not eating because she hated the food Or was there something else wrong? SO I chenged her to Blue Buffalo light kibble and bought some Pro Plan canned food yesterday. ( advice from vet) She ended up eating all her kibble and some fresh turkey breast. Would not eat the crappy food. Did the B 12 shot work that fast? Or was this a food problem. And can the pepcid ac make a dog stomach hurt even though it is supposed help? She did eat last night and this morning. I have attached her blood work that was done yesterday. Her hemoglobin was a little high? Am I correct. I was told that this could be inflammation, cancer or what else? The vet is not that worried about this As long as she is eating. She is to return in a week for another B12 shot and the chem needs to be repeated in about 2 weeks unless she stops eating again. Can you look at these results and comment on this? I am giving her 175 mg of milk thistle bid and 1000 mg of fish oil bid. Hopefully the combination of this and her other drugs didn't cause her not to eat? When does a dog need a B!2 shot weekly? Please comment
I will post your reply along with mine soon. Has been a rough day!!
Thanks,
Marianne
