Hi gang
I have been lurking, reading and learning some more and I thought I should let you know how things are going with my little man.
The d... interdigital cysts are playing havoc on Buddy. When his paws are good, he is alert and doing good. By Sunday, he had them on both front paws, very very angry and sore looking and was walking very gingerly. The one on the right paw is so big, I can see it while I'm standing and without having to check between the pads.. it is that obvious. There are also obvious signs that he gets shooting pains and when I do clean them and apply the <cream/oitment of the day< I can tell it hurts just the way he shoves his little head into daddy's stomach and believe me, when I am done with the paws, the gums, the eyes he is most anxious to jump off that couch and run away from me.
It is such a frustrating thing to deal with. I check his paws quite a few times a day, treat them a minimum of twice a day and sometimes up to 3 times. It could be dry and nice in the morning and by lunch, very irritated and sometimes bleeding (no, blood all smeared and not good for test LOL and for now, I just want to give him a break and not even trying to test). We keep a close eye on him to prevent him from licking. Of course, I also have to check his gums regularly to ascertain that the infection has not transferred to his gums and I continue to brush his teeth and squirt some oral cleansing gel with vit C.
I had made the Pumpkin muffins and both Buddy and Cleo just loved them. They were getting it as a treat after our dinner (about 7:30pm) and it kept them going until their own dinner at 9:15pm, then seeing the infection spread to both paws I vaguely remembered having had the same experience with another treats that I made and which contained oats. So now, we have decided to eliminate and track if there is an improvement. The rest of the muffins are in the freezer and I made them a batch of biscuits (tks Joan for both recipes). In all fairness, this happens a lot in the summer but it now feels like it is harder to care for since he is diabetic. It is so strange as it feels like he develops an immunity to whatever cream I use so I have been alternating and now call it the <cream of the day<.
The <butler< still brings him a bowl of water in our bed before lights out and he has kept hubby up a couple of night last week (out, water, out again but he didn't need to go out nor was he thirsty - just pain from the paws). It was so funny, hubby was getting little tired and cranky and the next day I hear him apologizing to Buddy for being a little curt with him during the night.
Other than that, he is still our <little man< and we do what we can to make him comfortable.
Take care everyone
