I thought you’d be interested in Buddy’s numbers today….. they have never been so low
8:30am fasting 8.3 (149.4)
10:30am 7.8 (140.4)
12:30pm 9.1 (163.8)
2:30pm 20.6 (370.8)
4:30pm 20.6 (370.8)
Buddy has been on 7 units since April 1st and the vet suggested we stay with that and keep an eye on him.
I had sent specific instructions to not give him any other treats than the ones I sent which were egg whites and green beans. He did get more treats than he usually would get since they treat him every time they take blood, and they put meds on his paw (more treats), and put drops in his eyes (more treats). Normally, in the afternoon Buddy has a nap with daddy and Cleo so today was different as he was in a cage all day.
Based on what we have been observing, Buddy usually peaks around 5:30 – 6pm. I tried a few times to get blood but the little man is a little more alert now and he didn’t like me much so I left him alone since I have to soak the paw 3 times a day, put meds on and put drops in his eyes twice a day.
I think I have read just about every post in this forums and I have learned a little more about food. I think Gayle has touched on that somewhere in a post and from what I learned, if you deduct the %’s of ingredients from 100, the balance are carbs. So based on that, I reduced his kibbles back down to 1 cup and gradually increased the wet food, always adding 1 teaspoon of pumpkin.
I also calculated those hypoallergenic treats and they are about 67% carbs. Those are the treats that I sent with him the last time he went for a curve and the numbers were so high. So I returned 4 bags of those suckers to the vet and got a credit for them. Now I am baking treats, using the Gastro wet food and the small is driving Buddy and Cleo absolutely crazy. For now, I will stay with the Gastro cause I don’t want to pi.. off the vet however, I have a lot of info on Merrick and Wilderness Chicken and found a source close by where I could purchase it.
Also Buddy has put on 1+ pound and the good news is that Cleo has now lost 2 pounds (cause missy is now on a reduced calorie diet) because her weight gain was becoming alarming.
The nicest thing was that Buddy is now used to hearing Cleo’s bell that we added to her collar and the minute we came in the vet clinic and he heard the bell, he started barking which is also something he has never done.
Overall, mommy and daddy are quite happy.
