Moderator Posts: 1494 04/01/10 01:44 PM	Hi Nan - good to see you. Hope things settle down soon. It is the first day of April. The weather here is beautiful - sunny and 70 degrees! It makes me want to quit my job. But lots of things make me want to quit my job! Now the yard work starts. I call it work, but I love to do it. I'm just happy puttering around in my flower beds and vegetable gardens. This weekend, I'm going to plant some lettuce and spinach. They do well when the weather is still cold. The daffodils, crocus, hyacinths, and tulips are up. I always have a bunch of flowers that come up, but never blossom. If I dig them out in the spring, I won't know where to plant new ones in the fall. But if I wait until fall, I can't remember where they are. Oh well. We are catching up from our trip to Arizona in March. I was looking through my pictures today - I got some really good ones, especially of the Grand Canyon. Weather permitting, we are going to start camping next weekend. I really miss it during the winter. Fritz does, too. He likes all that grass with all the other good dog smells. He has calmed down a lot in the last 6 months. Still has his moments (another pair of chewed glasses is being fixed as we speak), but overall he has settled into a pretty good routine. My husband says he just moved in and took over. And I say - what's your point! Sissy, a 15 1/2 year old lhasa apso left for the Rainbow Bridge on February 28, 2009. She was diagnosed on September 21, 2007. You can run and your eyes are clear, my girl. On March 8, 2009, we adopted Fritz, a Bichon Frise puppy. He is a rescue dog with a beautiful spirit.

He was dx'd with diabetes in November 2007 and is currently on 9 units of Novelin N twice a day. Nash went blind approximately 6 mnths after dx, has glaucoma and gets eye drops 5x day

Moderator Posts: 3050 04/03/10 06:43 AM	ROFL..Johanna, its all about making changes and portion control...jelly beans serving is about 15, I have 1/2 serving and don't eat them if I am high after a meal. Just like yesterday, had a salad for dinner (hardly any carbs) had a small ice cream cone later, and was walking in the stores, so was fine...watching what is being eaten, portions, and 'exercise" = an ice cream cone ROFL. I still bake, can, etc only I now make substitutions, like splenda sugar for my bread and butter pickles, zuchinni bread, add extra fiber into my brownies and make the portions a bit smaller. Now you should have met me in my first year of adjusting to this! talk about freaking out, but I relaxed and learned there are many ways to make regular food healthier and diabetic safe

Posts: 975 04/04/10 11:23 AM	God must watch out for old men and little children. For two days before moving our huge motor home to the ocean, the desert Sana Ana winds blew continuously at 60 mph. Doom was beginning to cloud the mood. In the morning, the wind disappeared and the day was absolutely beautiful for our trip. Arrived safely and are now all hooked up with water and electric, WiFi connected from the park and dog pens out and well used. Wife spent yesterday planting flowers all around the pens, put up a white picket fence and planted our tomatoes behind the rig. I made umpteen trash runs, repairing broken hoses and being boss of the pooper scooper. Missed all of you even if only for a few days.
