I keep coming to look at this picture it make me laugh. Penny was like a drunk she need the wall to hold her up. Only problem was she kept sliding down the wall. I had to move her bed next to the wall so she could lean on the wall from bed.

Not a lot of improvement, but some so I hope it gets better.

I guess I didn't explain it very good the other night. Now that I am reading what I wrote.

Penny still has the DM and this isn't part of the DM. She has a bone infection or just an old age thing or cancer of the bone. The xrays showed something isn't right with her left ankle bone. You can see when both legs are together there is a difference. The bones isn't as sharp of a picture on one side. She doesn't want to put any weight on it and it keeps buckeling out from under her. So here are the choices from the vet.

Old age and there isn't much they can do about it. Just try medication to releive the pain.

Bone infection that can be cured. So Penny is on antibotic and Rymidal for the next two weeks. Unless I decide to do something different.

Cancer of the bone. And the only way to tell is to do a bone bioposy. This could end up to be a major surger. The only cure for this type of cancer is to remove the bone. So that would mean to cut off Penny foot. With the DM I don't think she can handle three legs.

So I chose the second one to treat first. If this doesn't help we will cross that bridge when I get there.

Now I am looking at quality of life not quantity. If she isn't happy and without pain and enjoying her life. I will need to make the big decision. Just not ready to give up yet.

So the new vet agrees with me. Let treat it as if it is an infection and move on from there.

Here is the whole truth. When Penny had the xrays the vet said it is either an bone infection or Osteosarcoma (cancer). He would need to do a bone bioposy to be sure it was this type of cancer. Both the bone infection and osterosarcoma show the same way on xrays. The bone biopsy will be surgery then will need to remove a piece of the bone and surrounding tissue to be sure. This might need to be done in several spots on the leg. I asked if we could just treat it as a bone infection and see what happens. Given Penny age if this was his dog that is what he would do to.

So you all know me I come home a start to search and read. Everything I find isn't good. So her are the choices leg amputation if we take in account Penny age she will need about 10 days to two weeks to recover and learn how to walk with three legs. This is a rear leg and she doesn't have much strength left from the DM. This could extend her life about 5-6 months. Chemo therapy will need to be given too. This type of cancer will metastasize into the lungs. Remember when she was having problem coughing. The chest xray didn't show anything. But I did read it can be small and hard to see on a chest xray. This could extend her life 1-3 years. Radiation can be given for the pain. This will have to be done in three doses and there isn't any guarantee it will help with the pain.

The medication isn't helping and things are getting worse. At this point she can't put any weight on her left foot. She can not do the stair or get on the couch with out help. She doesn't have the strength to open the doggie door. She doesn't want to eat anymore and if she does it isn't much. This isn't a life and she isn't happy anymore. So with my heart breaking it has come time to say good bye. I would give all I own in the world to make this better. I just can see putting her through a year of hell just for me. So pray I have the strength to go through with this. And don't let her keep suffering for my own selfish needs.
