I have been adjusting Mandy's insulin the last month or so from 13.5 units of Novolin, to 14 units. Mandy has been doing pretty good during the day, but her 12 hours between her 8pm feeding and 8am feeding are my concern. Mandy eats at 8pm (changed with the time change) and at 8am. During the night Mandy NEVER goes low, not the same way she does during the day.
Mandy is always 400 when she wakes up, 12 hours after her feeding and insulin, but during the day (obviously more active) she stays more in the "normal" range, so I have been confused, when I see her at 450 in the morning I get worried, when I adjust her insulin to 14 units, during the day she will drop very low around 6-7pm, around 100 or even lower. Then I freak out and think 14 units is too much, so I back off to the 13.5 units for a week or so, and she goes high as a kite. Her readings are just weird.
On Halloween night she went really low, I had been giving her the 14 units for a couple of days, when she woke up on the 31st, she was at 400, at 5pm she had dropped to 152bg, by 8:45 she was at 60bg. I was worried the 14 units were to much so I backed off to 13.5 AGAIN!!! On Nov 1, she woke up at 7:45 and she was at 335bg, at 10:30am she was at 340bg, at 5:30 she was 150bg and by feeding time she was 80bg.
I continued to keep her at the 13.5, on 11-2 she was 360, at 3:45pm she was at 330 and by 7pm she was 120????
11-3-09 woke up and was at 170bg and by 6pm she was 210bg, all good. Today 420bg at 8am????? makes me think 13.5 isn't enough????
Can I give her more insulin at night??? not sure what to do.
