I seemed to have bypassed Cody here in my descriptions. Cody is a fine little boy. He was by my Mama's side the last year of her life and he is a very caring little man. He is a very smart little dog and I swear that he can understand what you're saying to him. He knows when you're sick, sad, happy, or what have you. I've never seen a dog so smart as Cody. He knows when you're not feeling well and will sit by your side the day long and not demand a thing, even to go out.

All of my dogs try to talk. Laugh all you want, but they really do. Princess does talk. She can say, "I love you." It comes out as a moan, but you can hear the words. I think it is remarkable!

Cody can't talk, but I can ask him what he wants and he will run back and forth to the door, treats, or whatever it is he wants.

Rudy has this thing with the word, "What." He will look at you with the certain look and you can say, "What!" He will then start all kinds of different little moans and groans and yelps.

Maxine isn't the one to carry on a conversation, but she is a constant barker and there are times that I feel like pinching off her head because she will not get up out of her bed when I leave the room; instead she barks, non-stop and continues to sit there in here little wicker bed...her throne. Drives me batty. She is a lapdog and is very demanding for attention, but it is because she has to be carried around so much. She is quite comical and very loving, but there are times that SHUT UP NOW!!! comes to order.

They are like people in that they have their own personalities. Princess is not a demanding dogkid at all. She never begs for food or barks for no reason. She will bark if the doorbell rings. She is demanding in respect to thunderstorms. She has gone into seizures before when a thunderstorm comes through. Sudden changes like a light turned on in a dark room will bring on a seizure. The phone ringing while she is sleeping will cause her to seizure, but they are mild compared to what it was when she was a puppy. I just pick her up and rub her stomach and she will come right out of a seizure. The vet told me to never pick her up during a seizure that she may bite me, but it is hard to simply do nothing when a little dog is so helpless. I don't know why rubbing and massaging her stomach brings her out, but it surely does. I've done this since she was a puppy and it has worked for me and her and I will keep doing this.

I don't know if all animals will react in this manner, but I can tell when Princess is about to have a seizure. She will start salivating and stare at the wall or look up towards the ceiling. When I see her do this, I will pick her up and hold her like one would hold a baby and rub her tummy. She comes out of the seizure. She is always hungry after the onstart of a seizure and I will give her the favorite treat of milk bones, but I do not let her eat a lot. She will have seizures during thunderstorms or sudden changes like a loud noise or something. Even the closure of a notebook spiral making the clicking sound when being closd can bring on a seizure, fingernail clippers, and anything that makes a sharp clicking noise. It's really amazing how certain sounds must be amplified for her. I have been giving her 30 MG of phenobarbitol since she was 3 months old. I have to take her in every six months to check the levels to be sure that there are no toxins to build up from the drug. I have been told by the vet that her liver will shut down from being on the drug since puppyhood, but she is 14 yrs old now. I don't think I made the wrong decision by keeping her on phenobarbitol. People have told me that it was a waste of money, but I look at her now and see a loving dog who has had a happy life and given me joy. I don't call it a waste at all.

You gave wonderful descriptions of your little ones, I feel like I know them already. We are incredible animal lovers here, many of us with diabetic dogs, but most with others like yours with their own individual issues. We will help and support and just get to know each other as time goes on and we all look forward to hearing and seeing more about your dogs.

It sounds like you have done a great job in managing all these issues- wow, a 14 year old epileptic and a 15 year old with heart problems... congratulations on such a job well done. I'm sure you know that there are many who would not even bother to try to take care of sick dogs, so you have my kudos for keeping them healthy and happy.

It's a well known fact that dogs have a vocabulary of at least 100 words! That yours talk and understand doesn't surprise me. My Lucy too, understands everything I say and can be quite the complainer when I say something that doesn't meet her expectations!
