Posts: 255 (12/10/09 06:54 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None Just received my newsletter from the SPCA here in Dutchess County and they have a poor 10 yr old (abuse and neglect case owners being charged) rottweiler named Sasha who couldn't walk due to untreated diabetes. I am going up Saturday to bring some supplies for donation . I am heartbroken as I am unable to foster at this point with Katrina still adjusting ..I think about the 11k I spent on kalvin for his surgery last year .April (the diabetic)was actually cheaper. I just can't take this on. So if you know anyone...I just can't do this now, I wish I could. It breaks my heart but would be so unfair to Sasha to be left for 9 hrs a day at this point in her life. Posts: 255 (12/10/09 08:06 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I know I break easily when it come to the puppies...Katrina is still not that sociable and so strong willed ..(I know nobody would have adopted her) she even bit me when I first got her ..now we just have discussions and she does listen but at the park she's like a moose. If she liked the Rottie then maybe? I don't know I leave at 8-9 am and get home at 6-7 it did work for April. But I think Katrina would have issues and she really needs alot of attention (mentally) Oh this is so difficult.. Then we could also maybe move this to the diabetic forum so it's seen better. Cindy and Nash Nash was born 9/2/1998, and is my sweet 1/2 breed Cocker Spaniel/English Springer Spaniel. He was dx'd with diabetes in November 2007 and is currently on 9 units of Novelin N twice a day. Nash went blind approximately 6 mnths after dx, has glaucoma and gets eye drops 5x day

Posts: 255 (12/23/09 08:41 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have not heard back from rescue.. I went to see Sasha and she appeared happy yet thin chewing on her rawhide with a coat on. My issue was that she is in an outdoor (protected shelter) at the spca with food avail. the whole time. Not good for a diabetic I know. I did get a picture of her she is adorable She was not cage aggressive but her eyes appeared a little hazy (like aprils on a bad day). Please let know as I would be willing to transport her. I couldnt take her for a walk since they said she had hurt her leg. Jac, Ella (golden retriever, not diabetic), Abbey (golden retriever/Irish setter, not diabetic) beautiful Angel Jenny (golden retriever), and cats Mona and Ernie. Jenny passed away February 15, 2008 at almost 14 years old. Weight: 65 pounds. Diabetes, myasthenia gravis, hypothyroid. Started on Caninsulin (Vetsulin) for 3 months then switched to NPH - 13 units twice daily. .

Posts: 255 (01/02/10 01:21 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Jacque Sasha is still at the SPCA I have not heard back from any rottie rescue..I guess no one wants a 10 yr old diabetic ..She is the sweetest thing. I know she is in a better situation being at the the shelter and not with her horrible owners but it just breaks my heart knowing she's not getting all she needs we all know diabetic dogs are more than just fill the bowl with food and walk away. I know they are giving her her insulin and she's putting on weight..If only Katrina (my 2 yr old rescue) would be accepting of her but she has her own issues I am working on . Posts: 255 (01/02/10 01:23 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Katrina is still too nervous around other dogs other than Kalvin. and when shes at the doggie park she avoids all contact with other dogs except when they get in her space She is definitely not ready to accept another dog in the house at this time as she wouldnt even allow a friends dog who she is familiar with in their own house. She is getting better but is still too neurotic and at times unpredictable . I would not trust them all home alone together even if crated. She is just getting used to me petting her while shes on her bed. Katrina was definitely abused before I adopted her and circles non stop when nervous or excited ..She has to be told to bring her frisbee everywhere as it is the only way to socialize her. Believe me I have thought about how to make it possible . I will just keep trying to find Sasha a home. Ella and Abbey would be fine with another dog but we have a tiny city house. Every time the girls want to go into the yard, they get all squished up against the door so I can't open it. Three dogs would mean that door would never open! And let's not even discuss how I'd fit three big girls into my car to go to the park. And let's not even think about how I'd get three dogs on leashes when the "leash police" are heading my way! I mentioned Sasha to a man-with-a-Rottweiler at the dog park today. I'd never met him before but he seemed really nice and was interested in knowing more about her. He has a diabetic cat at home so he's accustomed to the insulin routine. And he's looking for another Rottweiler girl since his own is so sweet and accommodating. Unfortunately I didn't have a pen and paper to give him my phone number but if I see him again, I'll give it to him so I can give him more info on Sasha. So there ARE people interested in helping her. It's just a matter of time before she finds a great home. Barbara, I sent the info to Rottie Rescue here in Ontario, then followed up with the photo and more information that you sent. Hopefully I'll hear back from them. In the meantime, I'm sending Sasha's info to everyone I know who might be able to help.
