Oh did she love to eat...
April was my beautiful "little" German Shepherd all 110 lbs of her ..just one big baby girl. It all started with a simple senior visit to the vet
..Senior??
She just turned 9 ..not my baby girl.. then the test comes back and the vet thinks she has possible liver failure issues. How could that be she's fine with
the exception of the random poo issues.. and she had Ehrlichiosis ..but she was ok. 3 months of doxycycline to rid her her of that nasty tick issue.
then this..Several test were done her liver function was fine..It turned out not even 3 months later I came home to a sopping wet rug .I thought UTI
rushed her to the vet that evening they checked her blood and she was now diabetic..she was at 400 I couldnt believe it. They then explained I could put her
down or learn to give her insulin..without a question in my mind ..I started the insulin. I was terrified ..within a short time (not with the help of the vets)
I had her regulated ..we learned together how she processed different foods. Eventually she and I ate boiled chicken and rice (why cook twice) I made her
little containers of food and with the help of some very knowledgeable people (you know who you are) I learned to keep her active and well fed and well
regulated. Not anywhere in my story can I congratulate a vet for their knowledge of this (I was just $$$ to them)
I must say however that April was a real trooper always waiting for the reward cookie (after shot) she even jumped up when it beeped and ran to cabinet. We
still took walks at the park (with cheese on wheat toast) she went everywhere with me I could possibly take her she was great without
a leash ..She was my little girl. About 2 years later she started to have a rough time getting up so now I was lifting her like luggage..built a simple ramp
for the five stairs out back and we continued through her "senior years" Her numbers remained great. April was a very special dog she was the most
sweetest and sensitive german shepherd ..She had one hundred percent faith in her mommy even when I didn't. April was with me till one month before her
12th birthday . We had a special bond and I wouldn't have changed a thing . Except if I had had the ability to make her better and keep her young forever.
