Administrator Posts: 238 12/01/09 11:52 AM Administrator / Owner	Tags : None As I type this my Zoe is on the way to the Emergency Hospital ! She was fine for a old girl... But just about a 1/2 hr ago I saw her drooling from the mouth... There was a huge puddle on the floor.... ( she don't drool).. I got her to stand up but she was shaking.... I called DR Mary and they said to bring her in.... Thank god my Husband was home today... I am stuck here waiting for a worker from my job to come and can not cancel at this late hour.... She is fine !!! she is having a sick stomach and dizzy spells.... ( part of being old I guess) Ill know more when I get the paperwork when Eddie gets home... So it looks like my girl will see her 14th birthday.

But she is so dizzy !!!! she has vomited everywhere... and had to be helped to even get her to her bed.... I can tell the room is spinning for her... I have medication for her.... Meclizine - 25mg. 1 tablet every 12 hrs for three weeks. Cerenia - tabs160mg. 2tablets every 24 hrs for two days.

Poor thing is so dizzy.... she just went out to the bathroom...I watched her swaying in the yard... I stood with her and that made her feel better... She a bit more alert...and prefers her bed on the floor... Glad shes home .... Dr Mary ran these tests....

There must be something that causes it. Wow, I guess I didn't realize she is 14, that is old for a big dog. Good job Johanna!!! I agree about the cleaning up of the vomit. I'll take it if the dog is going to be fine. Poor sweetie that she is....!! Give her a hug from Auntie Cindy! Cindy and Nash Nash was born 9/2/1998, and is my sweet 1/2 breed Cocker Spaniel/English Springer Spaniel. He was dx'd with diabetes in November 2007 and is currently on 12units of Novelin N twice a day. Nash went blind approximately 6 months after his dx.

She did come into my bed to sleep last night... and today she is on her bed.... She don't want to get up at all.. I cant blame her.. I had that Vertigo myself and it was horrible... !! She is loving the special attention . And I have to really watch Charlie... He is so inconsiderate !!! He runs and jumps and makes her fall !!

I also had Meclizine when I had the Vertigo.. but I couldn't use it it made me sick !! Can you believe she only charged me $1.68 for 42 Meclizine ?? I thought she made a error..

Posts: 151 12/04/09 01:14 AM	Did the vet call it vertigo, Jo? Older people suffer from dizziness, too but, as far as I know, it's temporary - just a few minutes at the most. If Zoey was still dizzy a few hours later, and vomiting, I'm wondering if something else is going on. How is Zoey now? Jac, Ella (golden retriever, not diabetic), Abbey (golden retriever/Irish setter, not diabetic) beautiful Angel Jenny (golden retriever), and cats Mona and Ernie. Jenny passed away February 15, 2008 at almost 14 years old. Weight: 65 pounds. Diabetes, myasthenia gravis, hypothyroid. Started on Caninsulin (Vetsulin) for 3 months then switched to NPH - 13 units twice daily. .

I don't want to alarm anyone, but it sounds more than simply old age and dizziness. You would think you would have seen that coming on gradually, not sudden drooling and all that. Are you sure she didn't get into something toxic? Even cleaning sprays, antifreeze (God Forbid!!!!!), something bite her on the tongue or on the mouth anywhere??? I read somewhere on Facebook, someone's dog got bit by a black widow and almost died. Drooling, vomiting, dizziness much later and for thing long concerns me too much. According to them Zoey will never be ok !!! I did not know this.... They said the meds will help her a lot but this will not go away...
