I hope I"m in the right place to introduce myself. I found this group through a link on facebook. My name is Cyndi too! Seems to be a lot of Cyndis!!! Ha! I spell mine different, so that may help. hahahhaha. Anyway, we have three pets-two dogs and a cat. One of our doggies, is on phenobartitol for seizures and he's also a diabetic as of one year now. Sammy is a five year old mini pin and has always had seizures since he wasn't even a year old. he's had blood work many times, but it wasn't until a year ago when he stopped eating for two days and drank a lot of water, that we found out he was diabetic. He's been on vetsulin since and we'd gotten his levels adjusted after multiple tries, seizures, and moving to a new state and having to start all over with a new vet (which has been the hardest because we LOVED our vet where we used to live). NOW they are saying that they are stopping making vetsulin and we are kind of worried about transitioning. During the last two months, Sam has had a few seizures, including one that went on a long time last night. Last night's was different though. He stopped shaking at one point and it seemed like his legs were stuck in their cramped position. He wasn't out of the seizure though (I can just tell now) and I was worried that he'd had a stroke that left him stuck. (My husband wasn't home and so I dealt with this one alone). He came out of it and was his normal self again, but i'm beginning to think it IS the vetsulin. :( We're probably going to move to something else when this batch runs out....any advice on transitioning or which insulin has worked best for someone's doggie that was on vetsulin, would be awesome. Also, we're in Salem, Oregon and are willing to drive to a vet that we can afford and who understands about Sammy's conditions. If anyone knows of any vets near us (60 mile radius is fine with us), please let me know. It's nice to have other people to talk to. We love our pets like they were are children and many of our friends and family don't get it. Some even laugh when we talk about dealing with Sammy's meds and seizures. It's definately no laughing matter to us. It's very traumatic for us and we just want him happy. Sammy's the red/brown one in the picture. He's NOT wearing the coat. ha! That's Penny Lane, his little sis. :)
Thanks for this group. Thanks in advance for any information! And a happy Thanksgiving to all! This year we're thankful for each moment we have with our lil' guy!
