I got a different dog this morning. I gave her 4.5 U last night, routine as usual and she woke up playful and full of spunk, bouncing around like a puppy. This is too weird. At fasting today she is at 205 and I fed and gave another 4.5 U. Maybe she just needs less insulin than before.

Johanna, what are you doing online...thought you were at the hospital. Let us know on that.

She's doing great, feisty, bouncing around, looking for me with interest of getting more of that honey and bread I give her now and then....she thinks it's a reward for something.

She got a toenail trim, fought like crazy (which means she is feeling good), is eating, no problems. Bgs. stable around the high 100's-low 200's (231 this am at fast, 168 at noon, and 221 at 5pm). So 4.5 U it is...indefinitely or until I see a steady rise and consistently higher numbers. Interesting huh, how this all works. Johanna, you're right, stress drops the Goose instead of raising her bgs. and she's in for more of the same this weekend. I'll leave that for another post.

Well, we went to the river this weekend and Lucy did well. I've been suspecting rebound for a few days as the source of her erratic bgs- big highs and super low lows. I've cut her back to 4.5 U again and am starting over again.
We stayed in a house there and Lucy traveled with an infant portable crib. Very cute actually. To keep her safe and secure (and Clean), we set up her playpen on the sand with her big dog bed and mammas under the Easy up for shade and she was very content. In fact, used the crib while in the house and she loved it. It kept her from wandering through a strange place with strange people and she could still hear me so she was fine and had no issues. This time I was sure to have my honey on hand, my meter and strips, and everything she needed but there was no incident.
Home now, she acts like she never left- is still at 4.5 U and will have a curve done tomorrow (one week), and this time, I will do the increases veeeerrrrryyyy slowly. I think I took her up too quickly last time resulting in the same erractic issues. She's happy and bouncy today. What do you think the chances are that the 4.5 U is enough now for some odd reason and she'll need less from now on?

Yes, the boat. We actually had 4 boats with our crew and the intent was for a men's fishing trip and the women and kids to be dropped off at the sandbar and set up comfortably while the guys took off to fish. The boat ride from the dock to the sandbar was within the "no wake" zone, so it was a gentle put-put to where we were going...we probably could have swam it! During Saturday afternoon the wind picked up and I put a blanket over Lucy's playpen to keep the wind off her and 2 people stopped by for a look at the "baby".... so funny...there was little Lucy all curled up with 2 mammas under her legs and her ears standing straight up like a bat!! It was hysterical, but even they had to admit, it was a great way to travel with an aged, sick, blind dog.

I know Judy. Since Lucy's lows I've been giving her a tad bit more food in the morning and night. She seems pretty stable now at 5 U (down from 6.5) and I think that is a big drop in insulin for her, but she is acting more herself the last couple days and her bgs. are hovering in the high 100's- low 200's. She did have a 319 reading this am though. She still seems to be drinking more water- I wouldn't call it excessive or abnormal, but she's never been a big water drinker. I think I'm just on top of her more and probably just noticing her drinking where I may not have before.
