Well, I think Nash might have a touch of pancreatitis.

We've had an issue with him throwing up a couple times the last few days. And the last two nights he's been "really" restless. We
haven't had a bout since last Winter, and it was mild also. So, since I don't have anything for a 'Johanna' diet, I am softening his food this
morning, and cutting him to half, and cutting his insulin to half.

I would keep him off the food if he wasn't diabetic....

You know, I recently went to the Hills Prescription website and wow, I never knew they had so many foods for different things. They have kidney food, liver
food, joint food, diabetic food, you name it, they make it. I was upset to see the W/D that Lucy eats is used mainly for weight control and she certainly
doesn't need that!! She is too underweight- maybe that's why, huh?

Glad Nash is better Cindy, I'm looking into food too (but scared to change anything), do they make a dry food in the I/D, maybe the dry would be less
expensive?

Glad Nash is feeling better! The rumbly tummy: it seems that some dogs (and some people) always have this problem. It's not easy to sleep when your bedroom
is being gassed though, is it?

I can't help with diet (it's not my best subject) but you might want to try something for senior dogs. The ingredients aren't as rich which may
help with the gas situation. It's usually higher in fiber, lower in protein, and just plain easier to digest. Your vet can hopefully give you some help
finding an alternative to ID.

Jo, I often bake separate meat for my dogs, too. It seems so mean to let them smell our food but they can't have any of their own.

Thanks for checking in ladies!!

Nash has been brilliant since we put him on the ID. The thing that is frustrating is that I did NO cooking for Thanksgiving (well, potatoes and veggie
casserole, but these are daily occurrences). But frankly, I think this has been coming on.

We noticed a couple weeks ago that he was having gas in the evenings. Not so much during the day......but ALWAYS in the evening, which was so much fun
having him sleep with us. And his tummy seemed more rumbly (is that a word, haha!?). He's always had a bit of a rumbly tummy, and I notice again, in the
evenings. But, it seemed to get worse. Of course, this all coincides with a new bag of food.......so I think it's time for me to change food.

So, I need some help here. I can't keep him on the ID (too expensive). But, I need something that is easy to digest, but will keep him even during the
day. I'd prefer dry (and it tends to be more reasonably priced) because...

Dee the old saying is Thanksgiving and Pancreatitis go together..

The worry that Killian would get another attack had me also so concerned....
But I found out that turkey breast has less fat then Chicken breast....
So I bought a second turkey... ( just the breast ) and cooked it ahead of time...
No butter , no nothing !!! just plain Turkey breast...

So while my Thanksgiving dinner was cooking and those smells were starting to hit, and making his tummy rumble....
I fed him some turkey breast.... He was happy.. I made my dinner... And no Pancreatitis !!

Cindy, so glad the Nashman is ok. Whew! Always something huh? Today I made my turkey (long story) and it cooked all day and Lucy started with the diarrhea
early on today. I know it's from the cooking smells because she layed by the stove most of the day and "hmmmphh'ed off and on all day- geez, she
wanted that turkey! I ended up giving her a bit of the breast meat at dinner (bad mommy!), but she deserved it for suffering so all day. I worry about the
diarrhea later I guess.

Glad he seems to be feeling better, Cindy! It's so hard when a diabetic is having food issues. I'm wondering if something changed in his regular food,
too. You're really careful about what Nash eats but is there any chance he got into any illegal food lately?

He seems better tonight. I gave him about a 1/2 can of ID, mushed down, with lots of water in it. And of course, kept his insulin down also. Of course, I
realize I may experience some highs, and infact he was 360 when I feed him. But, we'll see what tomorrow brings.

I went ahead and purchased 8 cans. Good to have a few on hand. I wondering if they have changed something in his food.

If he throws up anymore, I'll take him in. But, so far, so good. Say a little prayer. The poor boy has seen the Vet way too much this year. It is
driving me crazy.

He hasn't had any other symptoms, so we will see. I'm thinking it's early, and pray the ID calms things down.

Thanks for caring!!

Just checking in also but it sounds like you caught it early if it was indeed pancreatitis!!
I`m praying it wasn`t but it is best to be safe than sorry and treat it like it might have been!

I would never be comfortable with holding water to any animal myself but that is me and the vet may decide differently but then again they use IV for
hydration when necessary.

Poor Nash!!! Some dogs just seem to
get it more easily than others. I have used the ID with Fritz and his "explosive runs" with great success. Except it makes the poo yellow! I think
it looks and smells like wallpaper paste, but he scarfs it up - so OK. I know the theory has been to restrict food for 24 hours, but I have read - like
Johanna said - to give small amounts of clear broth and a little chicken. Since the first thing they do at a vet is hook a dog up to IVs to replace fluid, I
would let Nash have as much water as he wants! You don't want to go there! Keep us posted.

I would keep him off the food if he wasn't diabetic. And then I'll call my Vet today and see if they'll let me pick up some cans of Prescription
ID later today.

Of course I have a full schedule at work this week, and didn't get much sleep because of this. He's had some weird high's lately, but then again,
he seems to throw in the middle of the nights, and the highs have been in the morning.

Last time this happened, I had a couple cans of ID left over from the first time, and kept him...
